“Civil war, national bankruptcy,or revelation [are] more rich in the central tones than languid years of prosperity,” (Emerson’s “The Conduct of life”). What does this quot mean? what was the intent behind it? The quote really focuses on the idea of weather or not people want to be rich or to rid of earthly issues and problems. People are very greedy and only see money as there way to happiness and yet don’t see the issue in fighting or war because they don’t have to deal with it. But to the few who see the worlds problems and deal with them, see the ridding of these earthly issues as the way to happiness. I feel like the way to happiness is the resolution to these problems and everyone living in harmony.
